Journey of the Artist
Born in Cincinnati, I followed my parents to the beaches of Malibu at 2 years old and have been in Southern California ever since.
Receiving a set of oil paints at the age of 5, I remember painting a pickup truck going up the side of a mountain with the sunset coming through. [wish I still had it]
I’ve had the creative bent throughout my whole life. I designed and built furniture — receiving 3 blue ribbons at the OC Fair, built the interiors of world class sailboats, as well as fine cabinetry and custom wood windows.
Exploring another love, I ventured out into the culinary world as a sauté chef for one of Orange County’s finer restaurants.
After a few ‘non-creative’ endeavors — even real estate — I bought my first camera in 2001. Opening the box with great excitement, I quickly wondered, “What are all these dials & buttons?” Completely self-taught, I made it my profession 18 months later and have never looked back.
Currently, I have focussed my body of work on the coast of Southern California — most particularly in Laguna Beach. There is a reason that Laguna Beach has been an artist colony for over 100 years; the coastline is filled with the wonder of sea, sand and rock interplay — dancing and singing.
I have developed a variety of styles and techniques to create and express these soul nourishing images — from serene to dynamic.
"I love the sights, sounds and smells of the seashore." The interaction of the sea and shore give constant changes in detail, composition, color and contrast — and dynamics.
It is my desire to share this with all whom I can.
