I ‘love’ this seascape. This was the very first one that I did when I had decided to focus on ocean photography and waves.
I waited for two weeks for the conditions to be just right -- the tide, the swell and the light. One Sunday morning on October was it. I planted my tripod in the sand on the beach of Little Corona in Newport Beach and patiently watched over 800 waves hit that rock.
Very selectively, I captured only 136 of them — single shot, no bursts. Upon reviewing them I narrowed it down to 20 and then chose this one.
The clarity and sharpness of detail of both rock and splash is incredible. Moreover, the composition with the smash having three distinct components -- two directional sprays and one ‘cove’ surrounding the rock made this the winner.
