Very early on one October morning, I was at the Wedge in Newport Beach, looking to find gold in the form of a beautiful wave. I love the mix of movement here and the tranquil color palette of cyan [aqua] and blue in the ocean on the seashore.
Knowing the perfect shutter speed for any given millisecond of a wave's composition which is constantly changing is quite challenging. To have been a fraction of a millisecond slower or faster would have ended up with a big messy blur with no distinguishing characteristics or elegant flow of lines.
I captured over 300 images that morning into the early afternoon with each one, expecting ‘the piece.’ Sometimes, it never comes and I throw them all away. This was a wonderful reminder of that brisk early morning on one October day. As you may have noticed, the reflection of the rising sun can be seen in the heart of the wave.
